On a day like today, I'm reminded of Romans 8:28 NKJV: "And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose." Regardless of how I may feel about life, or in this case....my career, God sees the big picture. The world may tell me that my efforts seem worthless, and self-pity may creep in, but God reminds me that He is in control! And for that....I am very grateful!
A year ago, my dad bought me a drill press for my birthday. Nearly 11 months later I found myself using it pretty regularly making toys. However, the table that came with the setup was just too small. I scoured the internet and found several ideas, of which, the compilation of those ideas are below. I had scrap MDF, and the leftover fence from my table saw sled, so I was in business. The accessory slots are modeled off the idea from the table saw sled and the scrap piece in the center was borrowed from several idea's from the internet. You can see under the table that I had to build a platform for the work surface to be mounted......this was so my knuckles would endure raising and lowering the table on the right rear of the drill press. The large work surface has been great and I'm looking forward to many years of use from this setup!
Well, it may seem like I haven't been doing much in my woodshop, but I've mainly been working on some jigs for my table saw and drill press. I feel as though an attempt to protect my fingers should be at the forefront of my mind. My table saw sled is nearly the exact same thing as the "Super Sled" from Eagle Lake Woodworking. Check out the plans. I must say, I've certainly enjoyed using this sled! I still would like to build the pieces for mitering, but I can live without those for now. A left to right ruler on the Incra t-track is an add-on that will help too. Besides those couple items, I have really enjoyed having this on my table saw!
